Balance in All Things

night circus

Human beings like to pit things against each other. Republican vs Democrat. Coke  vs Pepsi. Lakers vs Celtics. Book learning vs street learning. Art vs criticism.

But life works best when everything works together. It’s the way we complement each other that makes things their best. It’s the tension between Larry Bird’s drive and Magic Johnson’s elegance and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s grace and intelligence. (No, I can’t believe I just used a sports analogy either.) We need both to make it all work.

The Night Circus functions best when there is a binding spell keeping Marco’s and Celia’s magics working together, so that no one can overtake the other. It’s when that bond is broken that things start to fall apart. And the resolution is… well, I’m not going to spoil it. But the balance is brought back.

Recommended. I love this book.
