The Storied Life of AJ Fikry is a sweet little novel about a bookseller who is in mourning, whose life gets turned around when a toddler is left in his bookshop. Each chapter is framed by a quick paragraph or two about a short story that is relevant to it.
It is, of course, about the power of books and literature to bring people together. Only connect. I have my suspicions about Only Connect because of too much AS Byatt and Frederica Potter – what if we connect with the wrong people? – but the book is entertaining enough to put those suspicions aside while you read it. After all, most people are good most of the time.
Recommended, because optimism is good.
